R. Kelly officially cuts ties with Chicago legal team, hires Bill Cosby’s appellate attorney

Convicted R&B singer R. Kelly on Wednesday officially cut ties with his original Chicago legal team and opted to have the attorney who successfully appealed Bill Cosby’s conviction to defend him against pending abuse allegations in federal court here.

During a telephone conference Wednesday morning, Kelly, who is awaiting sentencing in a Brooklyn federal jail for his racketeering conviction in New York last year, said he wanted Jennifer Bonjean to represent him in the Chicago case, which is currently set for a jury trial in August.

Woman’s remains found near suspected serial killer dumping ground in CT

The remains of a woman identified this month were found in a remote wooded area in Litchfield County that has become known as a possible dumping ground for homicide victims dating back to the 1980s and 1990s.

Authorities say there is no connection between the death of Brianna Beam, whose remains were identified this month after being discovered in December, and the other deaths over the years.

The armed group, which numbered 150 men from the Sinaloa Cartel, was reportedly able to take over the town of Caborca, in the northern state of Sonora, on Tuesday (15 February).

According to Spanish newspaper El Pais, the group killed two people and kidnapped five more, having passed right in front of a National Guard detachment and another group of soldiers without being stopped.

An unnamed local told the publication: “There was not a single member of the authorities who came out to confront them, all the soldiers hid. They left us all alone, they abandoned us.”

The town is still reeling from the invasion, with mayor Abraham David Mier Nogales urging businesses to observe an unofficial 10pm curfew.

It is currently unclear if any of El Chapo’s sons participated in the invasion of the town, or if they simply ordered it.

Jean-Luc Brunel, held on suspicion of supplying girls to Epstein, found hanged

Former model agency boss accused of rape and suspected of trafficking minors has died in prison

The former boss of a French model agency accused of rape and under investigation on suspicion of supplying underage girls to the late American financier Jeffrey Epstein has been found dead in prison.

The body of Jean-Luc Brunel, 75, was reportedly found hanging in his cell in the early hours of Saturday. The French prosecutors’ office confirmed the report and said an inquiry had been opened into the exact cause of death, but early indications pointed to suicide.

Brunel was arrested in December 2020 at Charles de Gaulle airport before boarding a plane for Dakar in Senegal where he told police he was going on holiday.

Jury seated in federal civil rights trial of 3 ex-Minneapolis officers in George Floyd’s death

ST. PAUL, Minn. (FOX 9) – A complete jury was seated Thursday after one day of jury selection in the federal trial of the three former Minneapolis Police Department officers facing charges for violating George Floyd’s civil rights during the deadly arrest on May 25, 2020.  

Former MPD officers J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao face charges of depriving George Floyd of his civil rights outside of Cup Foods after failing to intervene as fellow officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on Floyd’s neck for nine minutes and 29 seconds, and not providing medical assistance as Floyd took his last breaths.
